Jackson County players selected to Sand Mountain Super 8 Teams

Eight impact players in Jackson County Basketball high school basketball this past season have been recognized as among the best on Sand Mountain.

North Sand Mountain’s Kayden Reyes and Madison Renfro and Pisgah’s Campbell Barron and Alli Romans have been selected to the 2025-26 Sand Mountain Super 8 girls basketball team.

Meanwhile, Section’s Jackson Cooper, Brodie Overdear and Jake Cloud and NSM’s Brody Helton have been named to the Sand Mountain Super 8 boys team.

The Sand Mountain Super Teams are chosen by the head coaches of the nine teams (NSM, Pisgah, Section, Ider, Sylvania, Plainview, Fyffe, Geraldine and Crossville) that play in the annual Sand Mountain Tournament each December. 

It’s third consecutive Sand Mountain Super Team selection for Barron and Reyes — both are finalists for ASWA Class 2A Girls Player of the Year — and the first selection for Renfro and Romans.

Reyes and Renfro were Class 2A All-state selections this past season while helping NSM win its first state championship this past season. Reyes, who finished as NSM’s all-time leader in career points (2,635), assists (721) and steals (430) was named first-team all-state for the second straight year after being a second-team all-state selection as a sophomore. Reyes, a Berry commit who was the Class 2A Girls State Tournament MVP, averaged 15.9 points, 5.2 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game this season. Renfro, the Class 2A Girls Northeast Regional and Jackson County Tournament MVP averaged 14.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while making a team-leading 108 3-pointers.

Barron and Romans were also Class 2A all-state selections for Pisgah. Barron, a Sewanee signee, averaged 20.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game for Pisgah. Romans averaged a double-double of 14.3 points and 15.9 rebounds per game while also averaging 1.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

Rounding out the Sand Mountain Super 8 Girls Team were Plainview’s Sawyer Kate Hulgan, Piper Anderson and Jaxon Bruce and Ider’s Makinley Traylor.

On the boys side, Overdear and Cooper earned their second Sand Mountain Super Team selection while it was the first for Helton and Cloud.

Cloud, Cooper and Overdear helped Section win the Class 2A Boys state championship. Cloud, an all-state selection and Class 2A Boys Player of the Year finalist, averaged 17.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals. Overdear, who was the Class 2A State Tournament and Northeast Regional MVP, averaged 11.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game while earning an all-state selection. Cooper, who played the entire season with a torn ACL, six points, four rebounds, 2.5 assists and one steal per game for the Lions.

Rounding out the Sand Mountain Super 8 Boys Team were Plainview’s Owen Hope, Sawyer Wilborn and Grant Nickelson and Geraldine’s Cooper Johnson.
