NACC Release
Now the freshman right-hander has received some national recognition.
Edwards has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week, the NJCAA announced last Wednesday.
She is the first NACC pitcher to win the NJCAA weekly award in the brief two-year history of Northeast’s softball program.
Edwards and her teammates have made plenty of history this season — the 35-1 Mustangs are ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA Division I Softball Poll — and she made history twice during NACC’s four-game Alabama Community College Conference sweep of Snead State. The Chatsworth, Georgia native pitched NACC’s first no-hitter during a 2-0 win at Snead State in Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader before returning to circle to pitch three more no-hit innings and earn the win in an eventual 18-7 extra-inning Mustangs’ victory.
Edwards also became NACC’s all-time career leader in strikeouts, doing so in 21 appearances. She is averaging 8.33 strikeouts per every seven innings pitched.
The six-time ACCC Pitcher of the Week leads the NJCAA in ERA (0.56), is tied in wins — Edwards is 18-0 with three saves — and is sixth in strikeouts following play nationwide on Wednesday. She also leads the ACCC in wins, strikeouts, ERA, WHIP (0.64), complete games (17) and shutouts (11) and is tied for the conference lead in saves.
Edwards and the Mustangs are back in action Thursday at Coastal Alabama-South for a doubleheader starting at noon in Bay Minette. The teams conclude their series Saturday at noon at NACC’s Nathaniel Ledbetter Stadium. Tickets for Saturday’s doubleheader at NACC are available at gofan.co/app/school/AL100680 and students receive free admission by showing a current NACC ID.
