Tigers Tame the Wildcats

BEAR CREEK, Ala.-- The Valley Head Tigers defeated the Phillips Wildcats, 61-20 in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) playoffs. This win marks the first playoff victory for the Valley Head Tigers since 2006.
Hunter Robinson galloped in from 54-yards out to put the first Tiger points on the board, with 5:53 remaining in the first quarter. The extra-point attempt failed but gave Valley Head the 6-0 lead. With 3:09 remaining in the first, Eian Bain stampeded in from 83 yards. Bain also brought in the two-point conversion, to give the Tigers the 14-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Bain sailed in from 18-yards out with 8:50 remaining in the second quarter. The point after kick was good, for Valley Head to take the 21-0 lead. Nate Bain scampered in from one yard out. The kick was good, to give the Tigers the 28-0 advantage over the Wildcats. Phillips brought one in from 76 yards out for the score. The Wildcats went for two but were shut down by the Tigers. Robinson added another touchdown, on a 33-yard run with 4:11 remaining in the half. Eian Bain dashed in from 6-yards out, with 1:16 remaining in the first half. Robinson brought in the two-point conversion to give the Valley Head Tigers the 42-6 lead going into the half.
Robinson started the second half scoring for the Valley Head Tigers with a 44-yard touchdown, less than :20 in the second half. The point-after attempt by Raudel Segura made the score 49-6. Eian Bain cruised in from 5 yards out, with 5:53 remaining in the third quarter, to give the Tigers the 55-6 lead over Phillips. Phillips scurried into the endzone, from 2-yards out, with 2:44 remaining in the third. The Wildcats went for two but were denied by the Tigers. Nate Bain bulldozed his way into the endzone from 12-yards out, to give the Tigers the astonishing 61-14 lead.
Phillps scored as the buzzer ended from 4-yards out, making the final score, 61-20.
Eian Bain broke the DeKalb County record for most rushing yards in a single season, which was held by another former Valley Head Tiger, Tyler Harrison, for the past eighteen years. Bain currently has 2,665 yards.
Bain led the Valley Tigers with 237 yards. Hunter Robinson collected 174 yards for the night.
Tyler Harrison, former Valley Head Tiger who has held the DeKalb County record for the most rushing yards in a single season for the past eighteen years, congratulates Eian Bain for breaking that record with 2,665 yards.
The Valley Head Tigers will travel to face Marion County for the second round of the AHSAA State Playoffs.
