In a battle of No. 1s, it was Pisgah’s No. 1 that led his team to victory.
Senior quarterback/safety Luke Gilbert accounted for 363 total yards and four touchdowns as Class 2A No. 1-ranked Pisgah defeated 3A No. 1 Fyffe 30-22 last Thursday night.
Gilbert completed 22 of 28 pases for 288 yards and three touchdown passes while also rushing for 75 yards and a touchdowns on 19 carries. He also ran for a two-point conversion, and defensively recorded four tackles and an interception.
For his efforts, Gilbert has been named the Jackson County Sentinel Prep Football Honor Roll Player of the Week.
Other notable performers from Week 1 of the 2024 high school football season were:
Landon Keller, NSM — The senior completed 11 of 13 passes for 178 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 34 yards one three carries during the Bison’s 42-0 win over Ider.
Jake Jones, Scottsboro — The senior ran for 98 yards on 27 carries and a touchdown while also completing 6 of 11 passes for 129 yards during the Wildcats’ 14-6 win over North Jackson.
Jackson Smalley, Pisgah — The junior caught four passes for 107 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winning 11-yarder with 39 seconds left, during the Eagles’ win over Fyffe.
Diego Holt, North Jackson — The senior ran for 113 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries on offense while totaling 11 tackles on defense during the Chiefs’ 14-6 loss to Scottsboro.
JD Williams, Woodville — The sophomore ran for 161 yards and a touchdown on offense and had four tackles on defense during the Panthers’ 12-10 loss to Cherokee.
Alex Luna, NSM — The senior rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries on offense and had five tackles and fumble recovery on defense during NSM’s win over Ider.
Evan Petriske, Scottsboro — The senior recorded 10 tackles and one quarterback sack during the Wildcats’ win over North Jackson.
Jett Jeffery, Pisgah – The junior caught five passes for 65 yards and a two-point conversion on offense and had 10 tackles on defense during the Eagles’ win over Fyffe.
Steve Williams, Woodville — The senior recorded eight tackles, including four tackles for a loss and two quarterback sacks, and a fumble recovery during the Panthers’ loss to Cherokee.
Jack Johnson, NSM — The junior caught four passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns during the Bison’s win over Ider.
Trevor Houston, North Jackson — The senior recorded 11 tackles during the Chiefs’ loss to Scottsboro.
Jeremiah Dixon, Section — The junior recorded 11 tackles during the Lions’ 35-6 loss to Valley Head.
Legion McCrary, Pisgah — The senior ran for 64 yards and caught two passes for 15 yards on offense while recording nine tackles, including two for a loss, on defense during the Eagles’ win over Fyffe.
Colton Haggard, NSM — The senior ran for 85 yards and scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion on offense while also recording 11 tackles on defense during the Bison’s win over Ider.
Draco Poole, North Jackson — The senior recorded eight tackles, including a quarterback sack, during the Chiefs’ loss to Scottsboro.
JC Heikkinen, Scottsboro — The senior recorded eight tackles during the Wildcats’ win over North Jackson.
Caleb Jenkins, Pisgah — The junior caught five passes for 55 yards on offense and five tackles on defense during the Eagles’ win over Fyffe.
