Fyffe pounds Collinsville

Fyffe 42

Collinsville 14

The famous French critic Jean-Baptiste Alfonse Carr coined the phrase "The more things change, the more they stay the same" around 1855.

I doubt he knew his famous quote would include DeKalb County football, but fans of Collinsville can relate to his message.

Entering Friday, the Panthers' 24-game losing streak against Fyffe was just one painful reminder of their struggles against the Red Devils.

Another included the average score of those contests (37-6), with the last five exceptionally one-sided (242-9).

Friday night did not change the past for Collinsville, who saw the road team strike quickly as Blake Dobbins hit Simon Hicks on a 70-yard TD pass at the 7:05 mark of the first quarter.

By the end of the first quarter, the Red Devils' lead grew to 14-0, thanks to a 68-yard touchdown run by Ryder Gipson.

By halftime, the score was 35-0 as Gipson added a 15-yard TD run, and Blake Dobbins added two more touchdown passes (22 yards to Hicks and 51 yards to Everett Deboard).

Ultimately, Fyffe had their 25th straight victory in this series. Gipson finished with 186 rushing yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns.

Logan Anderson did not play and will miss another two games.
