RAINSVILLE, Ala.— Plainview student Bryson Richey had a huge week last week. On Thursday, Richey was given his prosthetic leg from Fourroux Prosthetics in Huntsville.

“Bryson was very excited to get his prosthetic. He wasn’t worried about not being able to use it. He just took to it right off. Within minutes he was walking normally,” Bryson’s mom, Danielle Richey, said.. “We were all crying and just so happy for him. His sisters and grandparents were there also. Next steps are continued healing and toughening of scar tissue so he can wear it for longer periods. Physical therapy to get muscles used to different leg. His main goal is getting back to walking with prosthetic full time. Then running. Then playing sports again.”

On Nov. 8, 2015, hundreds gathered in Rainsville for the first Bryson Strong 5K. Overall, the community raised $34,000 for Bryson. “It had no set goal but the money raised was totally unexpected and we were blessed,” Danielle said.

In August of 2015, Bryson was involved in an ATV accident a few days before starting school. Days later in the hospital, Danielle noticed her son’s foot was cold. Doctors said his blood flow had been cut off during the accident. Bryson later had his leg amputated.
