Brent Ennis never imagined becoming fire chief.

During a meeting Monday night, the Albertville City Council unanimously approved Ennis’ appointment to Fire Chief. He succeeds Jason Beam who recently retired.

“When I started my career 31 years ago, if you would have asked me then, I never dreamed this is where I would have ended up,” Ennis said. ‘I look forward to working with you several more years.

Councilman Ben McGowan praised Ennis for his work ethic and wished him luck.

“It is wonderful to be able to fill this position from within our department,” McGowan said. “We have a lot of good people working for us. The mayor and council are 100% behind you. We appreciate you staying in our city.”

Seated in the audience of the council chamber were numerous current and retired firefighters.

“Congratulations Brent to you and your family,” Honea said.

“We are proud of you and your firefighters and of all you do. We appreciate you all.”

In other business, councilmen also:

• Approved a request by Cindy Salado to rezone her property at 921 Baltimore Ave. from R-2 to R-0. The City Planning Committee unanimously recommended the rezoning.

• Accepted the drive between Beef O’ Brady’s and Papa Dubi’s restaurants and The Urology Center as a city street and proposed naming it Aggie Lane to the Marshall County 911. If the emergency center has an issue with the proposed name, councilmen suggested using Liberty Lane as an alternative.

• Reappointed Debbie Galloway to the Albertville Housing Authority.

• Appointed Councilwoman Jill Oakley as a voting delegate at the annual League of Municipalities Conference.

• Named the Aviation School at 24 Aviation Way in honor of former State of Alabama Representative Frank McDaniel.

• Council President Nathan Broadhurst and Councilwoman Jill Oakley did not attend Monday’s meeting.
