Three DeKalb County volleyball teams saw their seasons come to an end Wednesday at the AHSAA North Super Regional in Hoover.
The Fyffe Red Devils, Geraldine Bulldogs, and Ider Hornets all fell in the second round of the regional tournament.
The Bulldogs opened the day with a 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 24-26, 25-20, 15-11) victory over Vinemont. After a three-hour wait, Geraldine faced off against Elkmont to determine who would advance to the Elite Eight and the state tournament next week.
The Bulldogs fell to Elkmont 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 18-25, 27-29). Geraldine battled until the very end but came up short in the final set of the match.
The Bulldogs finish the season with a 21-28 record.
In the second match of the day, the Fyffe Lady Red Devils faced off with an excellent Holly Pond team. Fyffe opened with a 3-2 (25-17, 20-25, 20-25, 25-18, 15-13) victory. After taking the first set 25-17, the Red Devils dropped the next two sets 25-20. Fyffe took the third set in dominating fashion, 25-18, and held on for a 15-13 win in the fifth and final set.
In their final match of the day, the Red Devils raced out to a 2-0 lead, taking the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21 over Lauderdale County. But the Tigers fought back and took the match to five sets. Lauderdale County won the last three sets 26-24, 25-16, and 15-9. After the quick start, Fyffe just ran out of gas and couldn’t keep up with the Tigers.
Fyffe finishes the season with a 33-13 record.
The Ider Hornets faced off with Berry in their first match of the day. Ider took a 3-2 (25-14, 12-25, 23-25, 25-14, 15-11) victory.
Ider’s final match of the day was against Marion County. After holding a big lead in the first set, Ider fell 28-26. Ider evened the game with a 25-20 win in set two. But Marion County took the final two sets 25-22 and 25-12.
Ider finishes the season with a 14-17 record.
