Valley Head evens their record to 1-1 after a 14-6 win at Section.
The Tiger Defense played bend but don’t break football the entire game, and the offense opened it up in the second half.
The 1st quarter ended in a 0-0 tie, as both teams attempted to generate some offense. Section would strike 1st on an 8-yard TD pass with 7:10 remaining before the half. The point after failed, and the Lions led 6-0.
Valley Head would throw an interception on its next possession, and Section would drive deep into Tiger territory before Cayson McElrath would intercept a Lion pass and return it 35 yards to the Tiger 40 with 2:01 left before the half.
The Tiger offense found life on a 4th and 8 from the 38-yard line as Tytan Blevins found Ben Johnson for a 38-yard TD pass. The point after was good, and at halftime, the Tigers led 7-6.
Both teams were unable to score in the third quarter. To start the fourth quarter, the Tiger defense forced a turnover on downs at midfield. Six plays later, Tytan Blevins ran in from 7 yards out with 9:21 remaining in the game.
The point after was good, and Valley Head led 14-6. Section continued to fight and take over one last drive with 2:34 remaining in the game. But with 1:12 to play, Brayden Hughes would intercept a tipped pass and seal the deal.
Then the Tigers kneeled on the ball and got their first win of the season with a 14-6 victory over the Section Lions.
The stat leaders would be Tytan Blevins, as he finished the night with 7 of 15 passing for 83 yards and a TD, along with 24 carries for 187 yds and a TD. Ben Johnson had 2 receptions, including a 38 yd reception for a TD.
A gritty performance by the entire team wasn’t always pretty. And they found a way to get it done tonight. Next week, the Tigers travel to Gaylesville to start Region play.
