Story By Eli Sampson
The Plainview Bears hosted the Anniston Bulldogs last Thursday Night for their fall Jamboree at Plainview High School.
The Bears and Bulldogs varsity teams only played the first half, with junior varsity playing the second half.
To open the game, Plainview had the ball first, and on its first possession, the Bears turned the ball over due to a fumble, which Anniston recovered.
Anniston was unable to get points after getting the ball.
On Plainview’s next possession, Senior quarterback Owen Hope went 62 yards on a quarterback keeper for the first points of the game. Plainview missed the extra point, and with 7:30 left in the first quarter, Plainview had a 6-0 lead.
The Bear defense stopped the Bulldogs again on their second possession.
On Plainview’s third drive of the quarter, Hope found Sawyer Wilborn for a 38-yard reception that set up another Hope quarterback keeper for a score with 3:30 left in the quarter. Plainview made the extra point to take a 13-0 lead.
Plainview's defense added its third stop of the Anniston offense to end the first quarter.
The Bears started the second quarter just like they did the first, by turning over the ball to Anniston due to another fumble.
The Bulldogs struck quickly with a 43-yard touchdown with 11 minutes left in the second quarter. Anniston went for two and converted to cut the lead to 13-8.
The second drive for Plainview took almost eight minutes off the clock, but it was unable to produce points. Anniston took over and quickly scored again, taking the lead 14-13 with one minute to play until halftime.
Plainview converted a third down to keep the drive going when Hope connected with Janzen Curry with just 10 seconds left. The completion put the Bears in field goal range for Brayden Lingerfelt. Lingerfelt hit a 29-yard field goal to take a 16-14 win in the varsity half over the Bulldogs.
Plainview opens the 2025 regular season on the road Friday Night in Huntsville against Westminster Christian.
