Story By Katie Hightower
On July 26 at 9:56 p.m., a business owner on the 2000 block of Old Larkinsville Road notified the Scottsboro Police Department of a male that matched the description of 29-year old Daniel Victor McCarn, formerly from Huntsville. McCarn was a suspect involved in the shooting of an officer earlier in the day.
The State of Alabama issued a Code Blue Alert to notify the public about the suspect which included his name and a detailed description of his appearance. The business owner who made the call saw the subject on a security camera and immediately called the SPD.
Officers left their command post at Calvary Baptist Church and arrived to the location of the call. Officers deployed a drone with thermal imaging sensors which detected the location of the suspect.
A contact team apprehended McCarn without further incident. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail on felony charges.
The officer who had sustained a gunshot wound was said to be stable and his injuries were not life-threatening. Scottsboro Police Department wishes for the officer to have a speedy recovery.
