HAMMONDVILLE, Ala.-- (Full video on Southern Torch Facebook) Gene Cleckler was sworn in as Hammondville’s new Mayor by Judge Shaunathan Bell on Tuesday.

Clecker expressed his excitement of being named Mayor and stated he had always desired to be actively involved in the town.  

After being sworn in, Clecker thanked Bobby Ledbetter of Twin City Used Cars for donating a bull horn, to be used at festivals, to the Town of Hammondville.

During the Hammondville Council meeting, the following items were approved:

• Set pay for new Town Attorney Jeff McCurdy at $600 per month

• Gave Fire Chief Craig Hall a one-time stipend of $1000 as a thank you for working through covid.

• Paid Brody Johnson $200 for work done before and during HamFest. 

• Rescinded the abandonment of road closing between the baseball field and Town Hall

• Appointed two new members to the Planning Committee 

• Approved patch work on Palmer

• Passed the HB2 Gas Resolution

Renewed the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency of $300 for police computer mobile program

• Agreed to pay Ladd $15,100 for engineering design and bidding services for the Carmichael road project

• Agreed to pay the insurance premium on new police and fire truck in the amount of $1,797.

The next Council meeting will be held on August 9.
