VALLEY HEAD, Ala.-- The Ragland Purple Devils defeated the Valley Head Tigers, 28-20, in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Playoffs.
The Purple Devils scored the only points in the first quarter to take the 6-0 lead over the Tigers.
At the half, the Purple Devils had the 22-0 advantage over the Valley Head Tigers.
In the third quarter, the Valley Head Tigers staged a comeback. With 4:30 remaining in the third, Eian Bain scored on a 45-yard touchdown run and successfully brought in the two-point conversion. A minute later, Valley Head cut the Purple Devil lead to 22-14 on another Bain touchdown.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Ragland extended their lead to 28-14. The Tigers fought hard and cut the lead to 28-20, with 2:21 remaining in the game on another Bain touchdown. Despite the rally, time was not on the Valley Head Tigers side with the final score being 28-20.
Bain rushed for 232 yards, scoring all three touchdowns for the night.
The Valley Head Tigers finished the 2021 season with a 5-6 overall record in Class 1A, Region 7.
