FORT PAYNE, Ala. — From noon till 6 PM this Thursday, March 2nd, Skelton Orthodontics in Fort Payne will be hosting a blood drive in the office’s parking lot.
“We’ve partnered with Blood Assurance, and their bus will be parked in our lot,” said Meg Nevels, the marketing coordinator at Skelton Orthodontics.
While Blood Assurance will be handling the logistical side of things, the employees of Skelton Orthodontics will be in the lot as well, providing refreshment to those taking part in the drive.
Thursday’s blood drive marks the second year in a row that Blood Assurance and Skelton Orthodontics have partnered up for such an event. According to Nevels, there was a pretty good turnout for last year’s drive, which helped spur holding this year’s drive.
In addition, Nevels explained that the orthodontics office was located in relatively convenient spot in Fort Payne, making it fairly easy for those wanting to donate blood to show up and take part. The overall plan for the future is that “We hope it becomes an annual event, that’s our goal,” Nevels said.
During the 2016 blood drive at Skelton Orthodontics, 26 units of blood were donated. This year, Nevels said, they were looking to try and at least match last year’s total. Furthermore, she explained, anyone who shows up and at least attempts to donate blood will be entered into a drawing for $200 in cash from Dr. Skelton.
For those looking to donate blood this Thursday, an event page has been created on the Skelton Orthodontics Facebook page, allowing for an RSVP to the drive.
