IDER, Ala. — This morning at Ider school an argument broke out in the gym that lead to a student being stabbed. The School Resource Officer Wesley Greeson, principal, and school nurse were notified of the incident.
The juvenile suspect was detained and was transported to juvenile probation office in Fort Payne by the School Resource Officer. The injured student was treated by the nurse and released to the parents. The student is expected to be okay, and medical attention was given at the scene. The juvenile suspect was removed from campus and suspended pending investigation.
Superintendent Dr. Jason Barnett was at the scene and all the information from the investigation will be turned over to the Superintendent, school board members, and the juvenile probation office.
The DeKalb County Board of Education issued a statement shortly after.
"Local school personnel, the school SRO, and law enforcement acted quickly and no threats or alerts in regards to the Ider High School Campus. DeKalb County Schools and will continue to cooperate with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and DeKalb Juvenile Probation Office," the release read in part.
"Please be aware, the investigation is ongoing. As necessary, additional action will be taken by the DeKalb County Board of Education upon completion of the investigation," continued the release.
"Because of the nature of the incident and a required adherence to privacy, additional information is not currently available," the release read.
"The DeKalb County Board of Education and Superintendent Jason Barnett would like to take this opportunity to express gratitude to the local school resource office, DeKalb County Sheriff's Department and the DeKalb Juvenile Probation Officer for their ongoing support regarding this incident," concluded the release.
DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said of the incident, “This is a scary situation to happen at one of our schools. We are glad that the incident was handled quickly and with no other incident. We are thankful to have SRO’s in all of our school in the County and we are also glad that the juvenile is expected to be okay.”
