IDER, Ala.—Earlier this week DeKalb Sheriff’s Deputies along with officers from the Ider Police Department and Henagar Police Department discovered a body near Ider Church of Christ on Alabama Hwy 75 after locating a vehicle suspected to have been involved in a earlier shooting in Jackson County.

Police located the vehicle in the parking lot of Ider Church of Christ early Wednesday morning.  After locating the vehicle, police began searching the area around the church and a hayfield in the back of the church. During the search more extensive search of the area, law enforcement discovered the body of a white male with a gunshot wound to the head.

After the body was found, Jackson County and DeKalb County Investigators were called to the scene and the body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for positive identification. DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said the investigation is still underway.

“This appears to be a domestic violence situation, but it is early in the investigation,” Harris said. “We are working in conjunction with Jackson County Sheriff Chuck Phillips and his investigators on this case. Thank you to the Ider Police, Henagar Police, Deputies, DeKalb and Jackson Investigators for the great work on this case.”
