Sand Mountain Showdown

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Fyffe Red Devils and the Plainview Bears, both undefeated, met in the Sand Mountain Showdown on Friday night. The Red Devils defeated the Bears, 42-12. 

After a scoreless first quarter, the Fyffe Red Devils put the first points on the board with a 48-yard rushing touchdown by Ike Rowell. The extra point by Brody Dalton gave the Red Devils the 7-0 lead. With 10:07 remaining in the second, Rowell struck again, this time with a 65-yard rushing touchdown. The extra point by Dalton put the Red Devils ahead 14-0. Brody McCurdy scored one of his two touchdowns for the Bears with 4:40 remaining in the half. The 3-yard touchdown made the score 14-6. Fyffe answered back with 1:50 remaining on a 3-yard touchdown by Rowell, to go into the half with the 21-6 advantage. 

With 8:35 remaining in the third quarter, Rowell connected with Dalton for the 23-yard touchdown reception. The extra point by Dalton gave the Red Devils the 28-6 advantage. 

Rowell scored on an 8-yard rushing touchdown with 11:05 remaining in the game. The kick by Dalton was good. With 8:26 remaining in the game, Brody Hicks brought it in from 25-yards out for the Red Devils. The kick by Dalton brought the score to 42-6. With 8:00 remaining in the game, McCurdy brought it in from 10-yards for Plainview, to make the final score 42-12.

The Fyffe Red Devils racked up 321 yards for the night. Ike Rowell led the Red Devils with 195 rushing yards on 19 carries and four touchdowns. 

Plainview had 208 total yards for the night. Jathan Underwood had 79 yards on 9 carries. Brody McCurdy had 53 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns. 

Fyffe will host North Sand Mountain for Homecoming this week.  Plainview will travel to take on Collinsville.
