For the last thirty years, the town has hosted it’s annual Mule Day Festival in early September, and it’s thirtieth proved to be one of its most successful. There was the traditional draft horse pull, food, crafts, rides for the kids, live music, and even an 1860’s era baseball game.

“It’s been a good day,” said Lassetter. “A lot of people came out. It just really depends on how the weather is. If there is even a chance of rain, people will stay home.”

The weather stayed dry, and while hot, was noticeably cooler than the scorching days experienced on Sand Mountain this summer.

And while the temperature was hot, plenty of volunteers labored on Labor Day to help their town make it’s feature event a success, with many of them being involved for the last 30 years.

“We couldn’t put this on without our volunteers,” said Lassetter. “And there is some that’s been doing this every year.”

“Don Allen that’s over the pool and Sharlyn that does the park, they’ve been doing this for 30 years,” Lassetter added.

After 30 years of Mule Day, the Town of Ider is looking forward to another 30!
