Miss Alabama 2017 to address Fort Payne’s ‘Women in Business’

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — The Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce will honor a special group in Fort Payne at the annual Women in Business Luncheon, to be held on Tuesday, August 8th at 11 am at the DeKalb Theatre. This year’s guest speaker will be none other than Jessica Procter, who was just crowned Miss Alabama 2017. 

Procter will be representing Alabama in the 2018 Miss America competition. Over the next year, Procter will be fulfilling the roles of Miss Alabama, and will be speaking to Fort Payne’s Business Women in Fort Payne on August 8th.

Procter won the competition out of 48 contestants, and is currently a 21-year-old senior at the University of Alabama, and will have to put her academics on hold to fulfill her duties as Miss Alabama. She is currently majoring in interdisciplinary studies and psychology. She represented the Leed’s Area in the competition, and her hometown is listed as Tuscaloosa.

According to the Miss America Website, Procter, “focuses on leaving people better than she finds them. She doesn’t sing because she’s happy, she’s happy because she sings. As one half of the coffeehouse acoustic duo, You and I, this aspiring singer/songwriter’s typical day might include listening to a troubled eighth grade girl over breakfast, attending college classes, polishing lyrics in her latest song, dropping off donations to the food bank, running to a sporting event, or packaging and delivering leftover food. The daughter of international opera singers, Jessica is intrigued by the thrills and challenges of performing, and knows it will always be a part of her life.”

When it comes to her talent, Procter is a talented vocalist, and will be showing off her singing abilities to Fort Payne’s “Women in Business.”

The yearly event hosted by the Fort Payne Chamber is for, “Women who are either in management positions or own a local business will be recognized for their efforts to improve our community,” according to the Fort Payne Chamber’s Director, Carol Beddingfield. The chamber will also be honoring 3 special ladies in business with awards.
