SOUTHSIDE, Ala. -- The Fort Payne Wildcats defeated the Southside Panthers 24-16 on Friday night.
In the first quarter with 36 seconds remaining, Connor Cash scored on a 26-yard touchdown, to make the score 7-0.
Kaden Dubose scored on a short touchdown run to give the Wildcats the 14-0 lead with 7:23 left in the second quarter.
Alex McPherson nailed a 39-yard field goal to extend the lead to 17-0 with 8:27 remaining in the third. Southside attempted a field goal but failed.
Alex Akins scored on a 2-yard run to make the score 24-0 with 11:15 left in the fourth quarter.
Southside scored on a 66-yard pass making the score 24-8 with 9:47 remaining in the fourth.
Southside scored on another long pass making the final score Fort Payne 24, Southside16.
“It was a great team win on Friday. I thought our players dominated the game for 3 quarters. We gave up a few plays in the fourth quarter to allow Southside a chance to tie at the end, but our defense was able to make a big stand in the last 2 minutes to preserve the victory,” stated Fort Payne Head Football Coach Chris Elmore. “It was a great region win and I am very proud of our players and assistant coaches.”
Fort Payne will host Pell City on Friday night.
