On Friday, Valley Head surprised their hometown fans by breaking out their gold jerseys for the first time since the 1982 season under head coach Jerry Pullen.
Traditionally, the Tigers wear purple, but after finishing 3-7 in 1981, Coach Pullen wanted to “make a statement that things were different and new,” which he did by introducing gold to the Valley Head uniform.
Fast-forward to 2024, and quarterback Tytan Blevins led the Tigers to a 28-14 victory over Gaylesville with his third straight 100-yard rushing performance of this young season.
Blevins carried the ball 18 times for 169 yards and a touchdown, while Nate Bain’s 18-yard touchdown run with 2:11 left in the game sealed the win for the Tigers.
Bain finished with 75 yards on 16 carries.
The Tigers have won their first three games for the second time since 2014 (both the 2013 and 2022 teams started 9-0).
Valley Head leads DeKalb County in team rushing yards, totaling 1,126 yards rushing in their first three games and outscoring their opponents 97-33.
“Congrats to Coach Knapp for bringing their 2-0 gritty Trojans.
“They did a great job. Hard fought game. Glad to get a big region win. Looking to get a few kids back and keep building momentum heading into next weeks game at Ider,” Coach Charles Hammon said.
