VALLEY HEAD, Ala. — The Valley Head Tigers were defeated by the Ragland Purple Devils in non-region play, 24-14 on Friday night.
The Purple Devils struck first, scoring on a 2-yard dash into the endzone. The extra point attempt failed, making the score 6-0 with 5:06 remaining in the first quarter.
The Purple Devils added more points on the board with a 40-yard pass connection. The Purple Devils successfully went for two, making the score 12-0 with 11:47 remaining in the first half.
Ragland opened up the second half with a 4-yard touchdown run. The Purple Devils went for two but were unsuccessful, making the score 18-0. Valley Head mounted a comeback late in the third quarter. Jordan Burt ran in from 55-yards out on a quarterback keeper. Marlon Trinidad brought in the two-point conversion, making the score 18-8. With :37 remaining in the third, Burt scored his second touchdown of the night on another quarterback keeper from 11-yards out. The Tigers went for two but were unsuccessful.
The Purple Devils scored their final touchdown of the night, on a 5-yard run. Ragland went for two but were unsuccessful, making the final score of the night, 24-14.
The Ragland Purple Devils racked up 311 offensive yards compared to Valley Head’s 366. Jordan Burt led the Valley Head Tigers with 200 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns for the night. Marlon Trinidad finished the night with 139 yards on 24 carries.
The Valley Head Tigers will face R.A. Hubbard on the road in region play on Friday night.
