COLLINSVILLE, Ala. — The Class 2A, No. 6 ranked Collinsville Panthers defeated the North Sand Mountain Bisons, 54-28 on Friday night.
This win gives the Collinsville Panthers a 3-0 start to their 100th season. They are 1-0 in region play.
The Collinsville Panthers attacked the Bisons early with a 1-yard quarterback keeper by Kaleb Jones. The kick by Jason Perez was good, giving the Panthers the 7-0 lead. The Bisons answered back with a 66-yard gallop into the endzone. The kick failed, making the score 7-6. With 5:27 remaining in the first, Malachi Orr barreled in from 28-yards out. The kick by Perez was good, giving the Panthers the 14-6 lead. To finish out the first quarter scoring for the Panthers, Jones scampered in from 2-yards out. The kick by Perez was good and with 2:01 remaining in the first, the Panthers had a 21-6 advantage.
After a pass was picked off, the Bisons sailed down the field scoring on a 20-yard pass. The 2-point conversion was good and the Bisons narrowed the Panthers lead to 21-14, with 7:46 remaining in the first half. Jones added two more touchdowns to end the first half. With 4:35 remaining, Jones barreled down the field for 37 yards. The kick by Perez, made the score 28-14. After Miles Underwood, recovered an onside kick, Jones darted into the endzone from 1-yard out with 4:17 remaining. The PAT attempt failed, and the Panthers went into the half with a 34-14 advantage.
Jones connected on a 25-yard pass, to Michael Tucker for the score, with 7:31 remaining in the third. The PAT failed but gave the Panthers the 40-14 advantage. Tucker scored his second touchdown of the night with a 22-yard pass from Jones. The kick by Perez was good, and the Panthers went up 47-14.
The Bisons scored on a 22-yard pass with 11:11 remaining in the game. The Bisons went for 2 but were shut down by the Panthers, making the score 47-20. North Sand Mountain scored with 5:30 remaining in the fourth, on a 30-yard pass connection, bringing the score to 47-28. With 3:06 remaining in the game, Jones scored on a 37-yard gallop down the field. The kick by Perez was good, giving the Panthers the 54-28 victory.
Quarterback Kaleb Jones went 5-of-9 for 112 yds and six touchdowns. Running back Malachi Orr had 126 yds rushing on 15 carries.
