FORT PAYNE, Ala.--  The Fort Payne Wildcats defeated the Scottsboro Wildcats, 28-0 on Friday night. The Fort Payne Wildcats have won the coveted TopCat Trophy the past three years.

The Fort Payne Wildcats added two touchdowns to the scoreboard, in the first quarter. Kaden Dubose scored from 2-yards out to give Ft Payne the 7-0 lead with 8:44 left in the first quarter. Jake Barnes connected with Sawyer Burt for a touchdown with 3:50 remaining in the first, making the score 14-0.

With .25 remaining in the second quarter Barnes found Marcus Ledford for the touchdown, giving the Fort Payne Wildcats the 21-0 lead going into the half.

Barnes made a 15-yard pass connection with Ledford with 8:18 remaining in the third quarter to pad the Fort Payne Wildcat lead and shut out the Scottsboro Wildcats, 28-0.

“It was a great win. Our defensive players and coaches had a great plan for Scottsboro’s unique offense,” stated Head Football Coach Chris Elmore. “The players executed it very well and pitched a shutout. Offensively, we were very efficient through the first 3 quarters. We didn't finish the game like I would have wanted to but our offense got the job done early in the game. Great night and always great to retain the TopCat Trophy.”

The Fort Payne Wildcats will travel to Southside to take on the Panthers on Friday night.
