Bears Claw the Indians

NEW HOPE, Ala. — The Plainview Bears defeated the New Hope Indians, 39-31 on Friday night.  

With 11:46 remaining in the first, New Hope scored on a 79-yard kickoff return . The extra point was good, giving the Indians the 7-0 early lead. Plainview answered back, with 7:17 remaining in the first, on a 14-yard pass connection from Noah White to Marcos Vegas.  Two minutes later, White scored on a 47-yard rushing touchdown for the Bears. With :53 remaining in the first, White connected on a 60-yard touchdown connection to Corey Blair. The kick by Geo Chaparo was good, giving the Bears the 19-7 lead. New Hope scored, with :34 remaining in the first, on a 57-yard rushing touchdown. The extra point narrowed the Plainview lead to 19-14.  

With 6:33 remaining in the second, the Indians scored 3-points on a 30-yard field goal.  With :12 remaining in the second quarter, White connected on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Logan Bell, making the score, 25-17 going into the half.

With 8:45 remaining in the third quarter, Plainview scored on a 14-yard rushing touchdown by Broady McCurdy, making the score 31-17. New Hope answered back with a 17-yard touchdown with 3:43 remaining in the third.  The extra point was good.  

With 7:55 remaining in the game, New Hope scored on 1-yard touchdown, to tie the score 31-31.  Plainview answered back with a 1-yard rushing touchdown by McCurdy. McCurdy brought in the 2-point conversion to make the final score 39-31.

“All games are must win games but this game definitely had a lot riding on it.  This win gives us the opportunity to get in the playoffs next week with a win” said Plainview Head Coach Nick Ledbetter. “ Very, very proud of these guys and the effort they played with.  I thought both sides of the ball played well but the difference in the game was a total team effort, We will have a huge focus on special teams this week, we had way too many breakdowns on special teams this Friday night.”

Plainview will travel to take on the Pisgah Eagles on Friday.
