WINFIELD, Ala.--The Geraldine Bulldogs defeated the Winfield Pirates, 24-8 in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Playoffs. 

An 86-yard touchdown drive for the Bulldogs was capped off by a Jaxon Colvin 6-yard run, with 4:19 remaining in the first.  The point-after attempt was good to give Geraldine the 7-0 advantage over Winfield at the end of the first quarter. 

Carlos Mann took it to the house on a quarterback keeper from the 34, with 8:45 remaining in the first half.  The PAT was good to give the Bulldogs the 14-o lead at the end of the first half. 

After an interception by Jaxon Colvin, the Bulldogs had field position on the 41-yard line.  Joe Garcia made a 23-yard field goal, making the score 17-0 with 3:32 remaining in the third quarter. 

With 10:24 remaining in the game, Colvin punched it in from 4-yards out.  The kick was good, making the score 24-0. With 7:15 remaining in the game,  Geraldine intercepted the ball at the goal line to stop a Winfield drive.  Geraldine punted the ball to the 48-yard line with 5:32 remaining in the game.  Winfield scored on the first play of the drive and successfully went for two, making the final score of the game, 24-8. 

Carlos Mann led the Bulldogs with 106 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown. Caleb Hall had 54 yards on 8 carries.  Jaxon Colvin had 51 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns.  

Jaxon Colvin was 6- of-11 with 89 yards passing. He led the team on defense with 10 tackles and one interception.
