Title: Press Release

SUBJECT:  Arrest of Lucas Clay Posey.

On 08/24/2022 Lucas Clay Posey, Age 27, of Rainsville, AL, was arrested and charged with DUI, resisting arrest, and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident.

Around 4:14pm on 08/24/2022 Fort Payne Police officer was dispatched to a traffic accident involving a vehicle and a business in the downtown area of Fort Payne.  As officers were responding dispatch advised that a vehicle involved in the accident had left the scene.  Once on scene officers determined that a white Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling south on Gault Av in the 200 block of Gault Av N, and struck a white Nissan Altima.  The truck then drove into a business also in the 200 block of Gault Av N.  The truck was able to back out of the business and left driving south on Gault Av. A BOLO of the suspect vehicle was given out by Fort Payne Dispatch.

During the investigation of this accident, another call come in of a vehicle matching the description sticking a sign post in the 1900 block of Glenn Blvd SW.  A Dekalb County Sheriff’s Deputy in the area first made contact with the vehicle and driver.  As the Deputy was attempting to get the driver out of the vehicle the driver begins struggling with the deputy.  The deputy was able to detain and arrest the driver, identified as Lucas Clay Posey, for DUI and resisting arrest.

Officers with the Fort Payne Police Department was able to complete the investigation and also charged the driver with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident.

I want to think the quick response of the officers, and the deputy from the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office.  We were very fortunate that no one was seriously injured during this situation.  I also want to think the public who called 911 and was able to give information that helped in the apprehension of the suspect.

Thank you,

Chief David Davis

Fort Payne Police Department
