DEKALB COUNTY, Ala.-- The votes have been cast in the Primary Election and the results are in. 

DeKalb County Incumbent Sheriff Nick Welden received the majority of votes, which was 10,548, and was declared the winner in the Republican Primary.  Opponents Craig White received 1,296 votes and Terry Wadsworth received 442 votes. 

Nick Welden made his walk to the Courthouse with his supporters along with Summer Summerford, Lester Black, and Ron Saferite. .  They gave their acceptance speech to a crowded courtroom. 

“When you are doing the right thing, whose standing with you? The Lord is guiding you and leading you. I'm telling you what there is a room full of people here and over 10,000 people in this country that believe in what we are standing for and what we are giving out. Praise the Lord for that and thank each and every one of you” stated Sheriff Nick Welden. “ This right here is for Mickey Bowen, Jeff Bain, Melissa Wilkerson, Gary Bowen, and Steve Bobbit.” 

In the District Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit race, Assistant District Attorney Summer Summerford defeated Nick Jones, receiving 69% of the DeKalb vote total. 

“Eight months ago, we started this campaign with a two-week-old baby and we knew we gonna need lots and lots of prayers and we have felt those along the way” stated Summer Summerford. “When we all work together, we can get a lot done, and that's what I look forward to. Thank you. “

Lester Black, incumbent District 4 Commissioner won over opponent Derek Rosson, by a margin of 52% to 47%. 

“I want to thank everybody who helped on this campaign. Thank you, Lord, it's over” stated Lester Black. “I started out 4 years ago for everybody, not just a handful of people, and for the people who voted for me, we have done that again and I will represent everyone in my district.  I make that promise today.”

Ron Saferite defeated incumbent Chris Kuykendall in the District Three County Commissioner race, 1,405 votes 1,161 in Tuesday’s election. 

“First off I want to thank Chris for the job he has done. I appreciate his service to the community. That's what this is all about, it's doing the work for our community and the people of our county”  District 24 Rep. Nathaianl Ledbetter, received 68% of the votes in DeKalb against his opponent Don Strout. 

In the DeKalb County Board of Education District 5 race, Incumbent Robert Elliot defeated Joseph Lee by less than 15 votes.  Reports were made that incorrect ballots were given at a polling precinct, which raises questions that this race made be challenged.

The voting turnout for DeKalb was 28.7% of the county’s 45,063 registered voters, with 12,912 votes cast.
