Rainsville to Hire Part-Time Court Magistrate

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — (Full video at southerntorch.com) On Monday, the Rainsville City Council voted to create a new position within the City court system: a part-time court magistrate.

The new position will solely handle court business. The hire will be on a temporary basis at $40 per night until September, just to see if the role is necessary to conduct city court business.

In other business, the Council:

  • Passed Resolution 03-01-2021 (A) to award the bid for a 2004 Ford bucket truck to T.J. Enterprises in the amount of $18,000
  • Passed Resolution 03-01-2021 (B) to award the bid for three (3) culverts on Everett Road to Kevin Brown Construction in the amount of $4,600
  • Awarded a bid for a new culvert on Brown’s Chapel Road to Kevin Brown Construction in the amount of $1,500
  • Hired Stanley Hollingsworth and Johnathan Langley as part-time officers with the Rainsville Police Department at $14.97 per hour (on an as-needed basis)
  • Purchased a new heating and cooling system for the front office of the Rainsville Fire Department from DeKalb Refrigeration in the amount of $7,535
  • Voted to place a new street light at the new DeKalb Ambulance Service building on Highway 75N

Rainsville Police Chief Michael Edmondson delivered an update on the department’s amnesty month, which was created to clean up existing warrants and receive payments for overdue fines. Edmondson stated the program had collected over $15,000 in warrant money since February 1 and would likely be extended for another month.

The next meeting of the Rainsville City Council will be held on Monday, March 15 at 4:30 p.m. with a work session beginning at 4 p.m.
