FORT PAYNE, Ala. — Sometime around the Christmas holidays, a large amount of debris was dumped on the side of the road near 13th and Forest Avenue N.  The area is near the nursing home and the old Fountains building.

Fort Payne Mayor Brian Baine was observed picking up and bagging the garbage for the Fort Payne Sanitation Department.

According to a statement made by Mayor Baine on Facebook, “this kind of activity is unacceptable. No excuse for this.  There have been names found on unopened mail.  The police are looking into this and we need to stop this activity.”

Baine went on to thank the Fort Payne Sanitation for getting all the trash that was dumped.  “These guys go above and beyond to help keep Fort Payne clean.”

The debris appears to be the contents of a home and/or trash.  The Fort Payne Police Department requests that if you have any information to please contact them at (256) 845-1414.
