RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded the Adult Education Program at Northeast Alabama Community College a $13,000 grant to support adult literacy. This local grant award is part of a long legacy of Dollar General Grants, and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation is proud to support initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education.

Since 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $127 million in grants to nonprofit organizations and schools that have helped more than 7.9 million individuals learn to read, prepare for the high school equivalency test, or learn the English language.

“Consistent with our mission of Serving Others, we are excited to provide these organizations with funding to further literacy and education across the communities we call home,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s CEO.  “It is always so exciting to see the true and meaningful impact the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has on both children and adults looking to improve their lives through literacy.”

Kip Williamson, Adult Education Director for NACC, stated, “We are so fortunate and appreciative to receive this grant which allows our program to provide educational opportunities that we otherwise may not be able to offer in our community.”  The Northeast Alabama Adult Education Program offers free GED®, adult reading, career preparation, and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in DeKalb, Jackson, and Marshall Counties.  This literacy grant will allow the program to expand its offerings to better serve the citizens of these communities.

Individuals who are interested in learning more about adult education services, earning a National Career Readiness Certificate, or obtaining a GED® or Non-Traditional High School Diploma should contact Williamson at 256-638-2957 or 256-228-0021. Email him at williamsonk@nacc.edu.
