POWELL, Alabama--On September 25, 2022, Powell Police responded to their own Police Department regarding a fight in the parking lot where John Sanders and Glenn Sevier were in a physical altercation.

Injuries were reported but kept private due to privacy concerns. Mr. Sanders left the scene before officers could speak with him and had active warrants for assault through the Powell Police Department. On Monday, September 26, Sanders was arrested.

Due to the evidence that was filmed by security cameras at the Powell Police, the Department of Human Resources  (DHR) was contacted regarding the child’s welfare and safety.

“Over my years in Law Enforcement, I’ve told everyone when making a child custody exchange to try and do so at a local Police Department or Sheriff’s Office “ stated Powell Police Chief Stephen Malone. “Tensions are always high when it comes to these situations and we want everyone safe, especially our children. Never hesitate to ask to have an officer or deputy present during such an exchange, we would be more than glad to help” stated Malone.

“I want to make it clear that all suspects and persons spoken about are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Information and video posted here were requested through The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)” concluded Chief Malone.
