Due to the caring hearts and working hands of those who volunteer with the Marshall County Chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace, there’s a few more children that no longer have to sleep on the floor.
The Marshall County Chapter was among 49 chapters nationwide to participate in a record-breaking “Lowe’s 24-hour Bed Build” that took place in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 6 and 7.
The Marshall County Chapter was able to deliver 100 beds to children in our county from the record-breaking day.
The service project was featured on Good Morning America in a special segment that aired Thursday, May 15.
According to the official press release from SIHP, the segment highlighted the remarkable partnership between Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) and Lowe’s Home Improvement, showcasing SHP Executive Director Jordan Allen alongside thousands of dedicated volunteers who built a record-breaking 5,000 beds in less than 24 hours.
“We’re honored to be one of 49 chapters across 16 states receiving beds from this historic build,” said Bryan Baker, Marshall County Chapter president. “Thanks to Lowe’s incredible support, 100 children in Marshall and DeKalb Counties who were previously sleeping on floors, couches, or sharing beds will now have a safe, comfortable place to sleep.”
Local deliveries to children in need began on Saturday, May 17, and will continue throughout the coming weeks.
Historic Build:
The epic Lowe’s 24-Hour Bed Build event at the Charlotte Convention Center involved:
• Nearly 5,500 Lowe’s associates and volunteers
• 32 vendor partners
• 320 SHP team members
• 14 build stations operating non-stop
• 5,000 bed frames built in under 24-hours
• A production rate of one bed every 12.8 seconds
The beds were handcrafted from raw lumber and distributed to 49 SHP chapters across 16 states immediately following the event.
“Seeing our mission showcased on national television brings critical awareness to this often-overlooked issue,” said Bryan Baker, the president of the local SHP chapter. “Every child deserves a safe place to lay their head at night, and we’re grateful to Lowe’s and Good Morning America for helping spread this message.”
