RAINSVILLE, Ala.-- (Full video online) The Rainsville City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, June 21.

President Pro Tem, Ricky Bryum conducted the meeting in the absence of Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt.

Rainsville Freedom Run Director, Jerry Clifton updated the Council regarding the run that was held on Saturday. Clifton thanked the City of Rainsville for their contribution to the race. He went on to thank all the departments that worked so hard to make the run happen, from the street department, the Police Department and the Fire Department.

The 13th Rainsville Freedom Run had over 920 people registered.  There were over 700 that participated in the run/walk event.  The race was a huge success with runners from over fifteen states and over $30,000 donated to local charities.

Clifton stated that many people had asked why the race had moved from Broadway Baptist Church to the DeKalb County Schools Coliseum. Clifton said that the race had become too large for the facility to handle.  He informed the Council that the move to the Coliseum would build the foundation for the race to continue to grow.

In other business, the Council approved the following items:

  • Moving the July 5th Council meeting to July 8
  • Purchased 100 garbage cans from Toter in the amount of $7,102.40
