JACKSON COUNTY, Ala.-- More than 47 million Americans are expected to travel for the Fourth of July holiday weekend according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). If you choose to avoid the traffic and crowds, there are a multitude of things to do in Jackson County. 

Sarah Stahl, Director of Marketing & Tourism for the Mountain Lakes Chamber of Commerce,  shared the Community Happenings in Jackson County to help you plan your Independence Day Holiday.

Starting Friday, July 2nd through Sunday, July 4th there are quite a few ways to celebrate Independence Day – All Weekend Long!

Friday, July 2nd

Section Pharmacy is hosting their “Pharm Phamily” Summer movie night!

Stop by starting at 8PM to watch Captain America – Civil War with a firework show immediately following the FREE movie.

Saturday, July 3rd

  • Starting bright and early, head down to the Bridgeport boat Launch for a free kayaking event! Kayaking will go on from 8AM - Noon at the boat dock with complimentary Tennessee Riverline kayaks available for use. Stop by downtown on the way there and check out the community yard sale that will be happening, in the vicinity of City Stage.
  • Main Street Scottsboro will host Jackson County Jubilee - a July Trade Day with a focus on local homemade and homegrown items with an Independence Day Parade at 11am around the Square.
  • Battle of the Bands Knockout Round #1 of 3 will take place later that night from 6 – 8 PM. Come hang out downtown and enjoy food and drinks from local vendors! This is going to be an exciting event and emceed by the “always entertaining “, Jackson County Commissioner AJ Buckner!
  • Stick around for an incredible fireworks show following the Battle of the Bands.

Sunday, July 4th

Goose Pond Colony hosts their annual lakefront concert and fireworks show, starting at 6PM on Sunday, July 4th. Admission to the event is free. A variety of Food and Drinks will be available at both the amphitheater and in the parking lot next to the pool. Food will include Sno Cones from Kona Ice, BBQ and assorted plates from SoCo, Funnel Cakes, Deep Fried Oreos and Sno Cones from A&R Concessions, Hamburgers and Hotdogs from Comin’ in Hot. In addition, Beer will be available for purchase at the amphitheater. No outside alcoholic beverages will be allowed inside the fenced area of the amphitheater. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to the celebration. During the fireworks display, spectators can tune to 98-3 Wild Country (98.3 FM) for music synchronized to the fireworks.
