FORT PAYNE,  ALA.-- The Fort Payne Fire Department has released the following regarding the Burn Ban that will go into effect on May 1.

The annual burn ban issued for Dekalb County, Alabama by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) will be in effect from May 1, 2023 – October 31, 2023.

No burn permits will be issued or allowed in the City of Fort Payne during this time frame as per ADEM guidelines.  The ADEM burn ban restrictions do not prohibit campfires for cooking purposes or the use of outdoor fireplaces.

If the City of Fort Payne or Dekalb County is placed under a “NO BURN ORDER” at any time due to drought conditions, then there will be no permitted burning of any kind until drought restrictions are lifted due to fire hazards and safety concerns.
