Rainsville applies for Sewer Improvement Grant

RAINSVILLE, Ala.-- The Rainsville City Council held their regularly scheduled Council meeting on Wednesday, July 6, due to the Fourth of July Holiday falling on the regular meeting date.

A Public Hearing was held for the purpose to discuss the CDBG Program and the proposed applications the City plans to submit to the Alabama Department of Economic & Community Affairs (ADECA) for funding consideration.  

When a Community Development Block Grant from ADECA is applied for, a public hearing is held.

If Rainsville receives the grant in the amount of s $500,000, funds will go toward sewer system work in low to moderate-income areas.

The Council approved the application of several  Homeland Security Grants that included  (2) ATV for Police & Fire Department, Active Shooter Response Equipment for Police Dept, and for (2) Automated License Plate Readers for Police Dept

In other business, the Council:

  • Accepted Project No. CRP-BRZ-2021-01 (Construction of a Double Barrel 10 ft by 6 ft Reinforced Concrete Bridge Culvert)
  • Quote from FTC for Citywide Security Camera Upgrade for City Hall, Park, and Police Department in the amount of $14,983.
  • Hired Sam Young as Full-Time Firefighter effective July 6 at a rate of  $12.97 per hour
  • Hired Paxton Jones as Part-Time Dispatch effective July 13 at a rate of  $13.03 per hour
  • Approved Travel/Training Request for Matt Crum of the Rainsville Police Department
  • Purchased(2) Printers/(6) Trays from SHI—Annex $3,111.98
  • Approved the purchase of a 2017 Western Star Sanitation Truck from Ingram Equipment(Sourcewell)  in the amount of $139,244.00
  • Accepted Garland Frazier’s Resignation from the Sanitation Dept Effective 7-15-2022
  • Posted a Full-Time CDL Driver Position in the Sanitation Dept
  • Approved the Purchase of a skid steerer in the amount of  $104,000 to help clean up right-of-ways
  • Approved the Bid out  of Mechanical Screen at the Waste Water Treatment Plant
  • Approved the Repair of the sewer line on Park Lane at an estimated cost of $40,000

The Rainsville City Council will hold its next regular meeting on July 18, with a work session beginning at 4:00 p.m. and a regular session at 4:30 p.m.
