The Neal Thrash Saga isn't over, but that hasn't stopped speculation about who the next possible coach could be.
Superintendent Hugh Taylor made it clear that he has no intention of backing down from his decision, stating at the April BOE meeting, "Mr. Bryant needs to find himself a basketball coach."
Many people question whether this is a situation any coach would want to walk in to... following a Hall of Fame Coach that was just dismissed after the most successful season in school history:
- Sand Mountain Tournament Champions;
- DeKalb County Tournament Champions;
- Area Champions;
- and a trip to Jacksonville State University.
It's not only the resume a new coach will contend with, but the feelings of many of the Fyffe faithful who haven't gone quietly into the night after the firing.
Having said that...there will be basketball at Fyffe High School next season. A new gym and arguably the best point guard (Peyton Wilbanks) in DeKalb County will make the transition a little easier for whoever is roaming the box.
Some early candidates on the lips of "insiders" are Sylvania Coach Jeremy Smith (right), and Fyffe High School's Shawn Wigley.
But today a new name emerged. Speculation is that Jonathan Haynes of Section has been on-campus and could potentially be the man for the job.
Any official hiring will have to be approved by Principal Ricky Bryant and the Board of Education.
Whatever the final result is, it will no doubt be met with controversy.
Southern Torch will continue to bring you more as the story develops!
