Fort Payne PD find man in Possession of Heroin on I-59

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — According to the Fort Payne Police Department: On Friday, July 28th a call came in to Fort Payne 911 dispatch about an erratic driver traveling on Interstate 59 South. Contact was made with a maroon Chevrolet Malibu and a male occupant driver that had a tag number that matched the suspected erratic driven vehicle.

Officer Matt Jones noticed a green leafy substance that could have possibly been marijuana in the front passenger seat.  The driver, Edwin Esteban Herrera Martinez, age 23 of Millsboro, Delaware consented to a search of his vehicle.  Officers recovered two strip packs of Suboxone and a substance Martinez identified as Heroin.

Mr. Martinez was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He was transported to the Fort Payne Police Jail without incident and later transferred to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
