RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Cornerstone Christian Academy (CCA) Eagles fell to Jacksonville Christian Academy, 28-14 on Friday night.
CCA received the opening kickoff and drove to the 37-yard line but was forced to punt. Jacksonville scored on a 2-yard touchdown with 5:34 remaining in the first. The extra point failed, making the score 6-0.
Jacksonville Christian scored in the second with a 4-yard dash into the endzone. The two-point conversion was successful, giving Jacksonville the 14-0 advantage. With 4:59 remaining in the first half, CCA put their first points on the board on the first play from scrimmage. Israel Phillips hit Matt Johnson with a 52-yard pass connection for the score. The point-after attempt by Phillip Grizzard was good, narrowing the Jacksonville lead to 14-7. A bad snap by CCA resulted in a safety for JCA, making the score 16-7 going into the half.
With 8:29 remaining in the third quarter, JCA scored on a 36-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was unsuccessful but gave Jacksonville the 22-7 advantage. Matt Johnson caught the 29-yard touchdown pass from Lucas Hall for the CCA score. The extra point attempt by Grizzard narrowed the lead to 22-14.
JCA intercepted the Eagle pass and scored the final touchdown of the night with 2:25 remaining in the game. The extra point was unsuccessful, making the final score, 28-14.
Matt Johnson had 96 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns for the night. Jack McGullion had 41 yards on 9 carries. Phillip went 2-for-2 on extra-point attempts.
