RAINSVILLE, Ala.-- The DeKalb County Board of Education held their regularly scheduled meeting on May 27, 2021. The meeting was the last meeting Dr. Jason Barnett served as the DeKalb County Superintendent. Barnett accepted a position as Superintendent for the Guntersville School System. Scott Timmons will serve as the interim Superintendent until a replacement for Barnett can be hired.
At the meeting, Dr. Barnett advised the Board that after several years of negotiations, an agreement had been reached between the Town of Hammondville and the DeKalb County Board of Education for a baseball field for Valley Head High School.
At the meeting, the Board approved the following bids for the Child Nutrition Bids:
- CNP - Supplementary Grocery Bid Renewal for 2021-2022 School Year
- CNP - Milk, Bread, Produce and Ice Cream Bid Renewal for 2021-2022 School Year
The Board approved the following on the job injury:

- Granted an Athletic Club Supplement to Plainview Basketball Head Coach Robi Coker
- Gave authority to enter into lease Agreement/ Instructional Service Space
- Congratulated the Plainview Softball Team for winning the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 3A State Championship
To close out the meeting, Randy Peppers presented Dr. Jason Barnett with a plaque to commemorate his years of service to DeKalb County Schools.
The date of the next meeting of the DeKalb County Board of Education will be June 15, 2021. The meeting will begin at 10:00 A.M. in the Meeting Room at the Facilities Building.
