RAINSVILLE, Ala.-- (Full Video on Southern Torch Facebook)  The DeKalb County Board of Education met on May 19 for their regularly scheduled meeting. 

DeKalb County Superintendent Wayne Lyles stated that band parents who paid money for band trips that were canceled due to COVID-19 will be receiving a refund soon.  Once amounts that were paid are verified by each school, reimbursements will be made by the DeKalb County Board of Education, until a settlement is reached in court. 

Also at the meeting, it was approved by the Board the transfer of Nick Ledbetter, from Plainview High School Varsity Football Coach and Drivers Education Teacher, to the open position of Ider High School Assistant Principal. 

The following non-renewals were made:

  • Autumn Fox - Elementary Teacher - Geraldine High School - 5/27/22 
  • Terry Taylor - Social Science Teacher - Sylvania High School - 5/27/22 
  • Greg Carreker - Social Science Teacher - Valley Head High School - 5/27/22

The Board took time to congratulate local teams that had participated in the State Playoffs. The Crossville Lions and Collinsville Panthers were State Runner Up in Soccer.  The Board also congratulated the Plainview Softball Team for making the Final Four at the state tournament and wished the Ider Softball Team good luck in the state tournament games held on Friday. 

The Board congratulated the DeKalb County graduates of the Class of 2022 and wished them the best of luck in all their future endeavors. 

The date of the next meeting of the DeKalb County Board of Education will be June 3. The work session will begin at  8:45 A.M. in the Meeting Room at the Facilities Building.
