MENTONE, Ala. — After much anticipation, Cloudmont Ski Resort, the only ski slope in Alabama, is expected to open on Wednesday, January 22. 

The recent days of below-freezing temperatures enabled the resort to make snow and get the slopes covered.

Cloudmont features a 1,000-foot slope with an elevation of 1,800 feet and a vertical rise of 150 feet on one side. The other side is a teaching slope.

The resort offers equipment rentals such as skis, poles, and even snowboards. Cloudmont also features an instructor and a concession stand.

The resort is located on County Road 614 in Mentone. Their hours of operation depend on the weather, but generally are weekdays from 10 am to 4 pm, 6 pm to 10 pm. Weekends and holidays from 9 am to 4  pm and 6 pm to 10 pm. Skiiers are encouraged to call and check conditions and make reservations.
