DeKALB COUNTY, Ala. — At approximately 5 am, a large section of land fell from Lookout Mountain onto Highway 117, according to DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency Director Anthony Clifton.
The mudslide temporarily closed both lanes of traffic on the highway between Valley Head and Martha's Gap. Both lanes are open now.
The Mentone Fire Department used hand tools before the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) brought in equipment to clean the site.
Clifton advises caution in the area because more sliding is possible.
