The Trilogy: Battle of No.1 teams

The Trilogy: Battle of No.1 teams

Story By Sports Editor Heath

The most famous trilogy of all time is perhaps Ali vs. Frazier, which took place from 1971 to 1975. Ali went 2-1 in the three matches against Frazier. Or even most recently, with the Alabama vs. Clemson trilogy, featuring three national championship games from 2016 to 2019. Clemson went 2-1 in those games.

Well, this year’s DeKalb County Tournament will have its own trilogy as the 4A No. 1-ranked Plainview Lady Bears (24-2) face off with the 1A No. 1-ranked Ider Lady Hornets (19-6) for the third straight year in the varsity girls final.

Both teams have slip the last two meetings. Plainview defeated Ider in 2024, 72-31. Last year Ider defeated Plainview 55-45.

Both teams are coming off blowout semifinal wins. Plainview won by 52 over Fyffe while Ider defeated Sylvania by 31 in a game that was a ten-point game going into the final quarter.

Plainview is led by junior Sawyer Kate Hulgan, Piper Anderson, and Jaxon Bruce. Ider is led by senior MaKinley Traylor along with eight other seniors.

Both teams have played two tough schedules.

The coaches in this match-up are two of the best in Northeast Alabama. Plainview is led by Luke Griggs the grandson of legendary Collinsville coach L.D. Dobbins. All Griggs has done at Plainview in eight seasons is win. As for Ider they are led by state championship-winning coach Jamie Pruett. Pruett has won over 400 games in his career.

This matchup should be another classic.
