The Southern Torch Week 9 POWER RANKINGS
8. Crossville Lions (0-9)
Pounded by Sardis, 52-14...the home/away splits did not help. 0-10 for the first time since 1952 is all but certain.
Points Per Game: 14
Average Margin of Victory: -26
Next: vs Geraldine (7-2)
7. Collinsville Panthers (3-6)
It's been a tough year with the move to 2A for the Panthers and Fyffe forcefully brought their region schedule to a close with a 49-7 thumping.
They'll close the year with their old 1A rival, Valley Head.
Points Per Game: 20
Average Margin of Victory: -8
Next: at Valley Head (5-3)
6. Sylvania Rams (4-5)
For the first time this season we saw the Rams go down early and then fight back and pull out a 4th quarter victory. They head to the Hornets Nest this Thursday for a shot at a .500 season.
Points Per Game: 22
Average Margin of Victory: -2
Next: at Ider (6-3)
5. Valley Head Tigers (5-3)
The Tigers handed Woodville their 6th straight loss and head into their season finale with their old foes on a bit of a winning streak. Should be a fun one...and the only DeKalb game on Halloween night.
Points Per Game: 24
Average Margin of Victory: +4
Next: vs Collinsville (3-6)
4. Ider Hornets (6-3)
No surprises here as the Hornets flexed their muscles against another physical team in the Section Lions, 18-0. The shutout should give them huge momentum as they take on a Rams team that's style is hardly like looking in the gym mirror.
Points Per Game: 26
Average Margin of Victory: +6
Next: vs Sylvania (4-5)
3. Geraldine Bulldogs (7-2)
The Geraldine Bulldogs would finish the 2014 regular season undefeated if Fyffe and Plainview weren't on the schedule. They'll close with what appears to be a gimme at "The Battle of Skirum Creek".
Points Per Game: 20
Average Margin of Victory: +6
Next: at Crossville (0-9)
2. Plainview Bears (8-1)
The Bears closed out an undefeated region championship in style by blowing out the previously undefeated Geraldine Bulldogs, 42-7. The Bears are healthy and firing on all cylinders as they now try to bring home the Power Rankings Championship in the big one that everyone's been waiting for.
Points Per Game: 39
Average Margin of Victory: +25
Next: vs Fyffe (9-0)
1. Fyffe Red Devils (9-0)
The 42 point beatdown to go undefeated in the region...again...was just an afterthought compared to the real story on Friday night.
QB Will Mashburn suffered an ankle injury that will likely keep him out of the Plainview game. The problem for Fyffe now becomes, can Alex Benefield or Ty Chambers run the offense efficiently enough to hold off the high flying Bears and bring home back to back Power Rankings Championships.
And while the Power Rankings Championship would be nice and give Fyffe fans another 365 days of taunting their Sand Mountain neighbors, the real focus is getting Mashburn healthy for the playoffs...because this Fyffe team can bring home the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Points Per Game: 54
Average Margin of Victory: +44
Next: at Plainview (8-1)
