Usually after 3 games you can tell the identity of a football team. However there are a few DeKalb teams that we're still left scratching our heads about.
Each week we grade every team in DeKalb County based on a number of factors.
Rankings are based on:
- Overall Record
- Region Record
- Head-to-Head Match-ups
- Strength of Schedule
- Margin of Victory
- Coaching
- Talent
The Southern Torch Week 3 POWER RANKINGS
8. Crossville Lions (0-3)
Long sigh. After leading 14-0, the Lions gave it up on the back 9 to an inconsistent Hokes Bluff team. The quest for the mythical first win continues for the Lions as they stay in the cellar.
Next: at Cleburne County
7. Valley Head Tigers (1-2)
After the beat down Valley Head gave Collinsville last season...and the beat down Collinsville gave Cedar Bluff this season...I didn't see the beat down coming that Cedar Bluff gave Valley Head on Friday night.
Next: vs Gaylesville
6. Sylvania Rams (1-2)
Good first win for the Rammers as they blew out Brindlee Mountain in their last home game until the Bears come to town in Week 7. Mean Green looks poised to hit the .500 mark this week against a weak NSM unit.
Next: at North Sand Mountain
5. Ider Hornets (2-1)
The stingers really needed that one, because now they've got to run the gauntlet to finish the season. Unfortunately, this will probably be their highest POWER RANKING for the rest of 2014.
Next: vs Fyffe
4. Geraldine Bulldogs (2-1)
It started out with the Bulldogs going up 27-0 in the 2nd quarter. Then Marcus Davis went down. Then the Eagles came back. Then Geraldine hung on to win a game that was much closer than it should've been. I'm still confused by this Geraldine squad that I know is a physical squad with talent.
Next: vs Brindlee Mountain
3. Collinsville Panthers (3-0)
This was the first scare of 2014 for the Panthers before hanging 21 on the board in the 4th quarter against 3A Holly Pond. With Cleveland on the slate for Friday night, this matchup could determine if Collinsville goes 9-1 or 8-2 this year.
Next: at Cleveland
2. Plainview Bears (2-1)
Payne Anderson went 60 on the first play of the game as OC Luke Pruitt was dialing it up all night against the tribe. The Indians D1 QB prospect was completely shutdown all night and Plainview cruised to remain strong atop the region.
Next: vs Sand Rock
1. Fyffe Red Devils (3-0)
48-0. Any questions?
