Week 1 was seen as a disappointment for DeKalb County teams with only 3 teams emerging victorious. Week 2 was a different story and was filled with heartbreak and blowouts.

The Southern Torch Week 2 POWER RANKINGS:
8. Crossville Lions (0-2)
Didn't work. The Lions were optimistic even after a Week 1 loss (OT), however Jacksonville put a pounding on the black and gold with a 49-6 drubbing. I can't be certain the Lions will fair much better this week against a powerhouse Eagles unit.

7. Sylvania Rams (0-2)
An 0-2 team that is two plays away from being 2-0. Senior QB Dillon Cambron was out with a knee injury, but if you remove the first quarter jitters from Sophmore backup Caleb Roebuck you have to be optimistic if you're a Ram. Lucas Wooten did everything he could, but when his 3rd interception was called back due to a helmet-to-helmet flag on one of his teammates the air was let out of the stadium and the Eagles scored on the very next play which proved to be the game winner, 18-19.

6. Valley Head Tigers (1-1)
We felt the Tigers would be good to go once they settled in to region play and they proved us right by hanging half a hundo on Coosa Christian. Keep feedin' the bowling ball style of "Stump" Gregory and the Tigers will repeat as Region Champs in 2014.

5. Ider Hornets (2-0)
So far the surprise of the season as the team that was 1-9 last season is undefeated this season. Team unity and a physical defense have the Hornets eyeing the postseason. The schedule becomes brutal the rest of the way, so we'll have to pay attention to how much of this start is credited to an improved Ider team or how much is due to strength of schedule.

4. Geraldine Bulldogs (1-1)
Everyone settle down, they're fine. A big win (21-7) from the Bulldogs against reigning region champ, New Hope, puts the purple season back on track. Looking at the next 4 games for the Bulldogs it looks like they could go on a big run and possibly be 5-1 as they head to the Rock...fighting their way back towards the top of the POWER Rankings.

3. Collinsville Panthers (2-0)
This 2A stuff is easy, eh? 34-3 as their first taste of 2A region play was never even close. Jalyn Martin already has 442 yards and is running (very fast) towards a 2,000 yard season.

2. Plainview Bears (1-1)
The Bears put the first notch of the 2014 season in their belt with a 44-0 annihilation of North Sand Mountain. While the Bisons aren't the team that led Tanner in the 4th Quarter in the playoffs last season, they're still a region win and a great way to showcase what this Bears team is capable of. Will Kirk had a TD catch and a pick-6 to highlight the stat sheet. They'll need the unit clicking as New Hope comes calling for the Sheriff Jimmy Harris Game of the Week!

1. Fyffe Red Devils (2-0)
Have you ever felt bad for an opponent? Me either. Cleveland was thought to be the threat to Fyffe's region title hopes this season. Umm, ok. 54-28 on the road, and the game was nowhere close to the actual score as Cleveland eventually scored against the 2nd string. You might want to keep an eye on hotel accommodations at Jordan-Hare around December...
