COLLINSVILLE, Ala.-- The Valley Head Tigers defeated the Collinsville Panthers, 27-6, on Friday night to win the Southern Torch Team of the Week.
Collinsville scored a touchdown on the first possession of the game, with a 31-yard run by Keaton Deboard. He led the Panthers in rushing with 126 yards. Valley Head came back with its own touchdown on a 32-yard run by Eian Bain. He led the Tigers with 256 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Collinsville scored a touchdown on the next possession to go up 14-7. Valley Head scored to tie the game.
In the second half, Valley Head scored again to make the score 21-14. Collinsville moved down the field preparing to tie things back up. They had the ball at the 8 when Valley Head's Ashton Brown pounced on a Panther fumble. The Tigers drove 90 yards to push the lead to 27-6. Collinsville stalled at the 17 on their final possession allowing Valley Head to take over and run out the clock.
Ashton Brown's recovery was the only turnover of the game. He rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown, all in the first half.
Valley Head goes on to face Ragland in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Playoffs.
