Scottsboro wrestling wins Hoover’s Turkey Duals event

Wildcats go 5-0 en route to tournament title

The Scottsboro wrestling team will headed into the Thanksgiving holiday by adding a tournament title to its 2024-25 season resume.

Scottsboro, the defending Class 5A state champion and current 5A No. 1-ranked team, went 5-0 on the way to winning Hoover’s Turkey Duals championship Tuesday at Hoover High School.

The Wildcats (6-0) posted pool-play wins over Brewbaker Tech 58-18, Corner 62-18, Minor 63-6 and Clay-Chalkville 61-12 before defeating Hoover 49-22 in the dual’s championship match.

Seven Scottsboro wrestlers went 5-0 during the event and another went 3-0. 

Scottsboro’s 5-0 wrestlers were Gage Staton in the 113-pound weight class, Stone Staton at 126, John Stewart at 144, Josh Draskovic at 150, Cohen Osborne at 165, Jacob Anderson at 190 and Luke Calfee at 285. Isaac Ferguson went 3-0 at 138, Cole Synder at 120 and JJ Ake at 175 both went 4-1, Jackson Dupree at 138 went 3-1 and Vinny Jaquibino was 1-0.
